Professor Nancy Cromar is the Pro Vice-Chancellor (International) at Flinders University.
Professor Cromar has a leadership role in advising on development plans and policy setting to foster excellence and innovation in the University’s international engagement.
She also has oversight of the International Office and ensuring the effectiveness of the University’s international student recruitment and marketing strategies.
In collaboration with the DVC (Academic) and the Vice-President (Strategy and Community Engagement), Professor Cromar has oversight of the quality assurance and regulatory compliance of the University’s international programs and operations. In addition, Professor Cromar chairs the International Advisory Committee (IAC).
As an academic, Professor Cromar has international research experience in health-related water microbiology and public health risk assessment and management, with over 100 publications in the international peer-reviewed literature. She acts as a consultant for both the World Health Organisation and the National Health and Medical Research Council on matters pertaining to water quality and health.
Her interests also include education of environmental health practitioners and changing workforce requirements in environmental health nationally and internationally. She was a member of the Board of Environmental Health Australia from 2006-2009 and Chair of the International Federation of Environmental Health’s International Faculty Forum for two terms from 2008-2012.
Professor Cromar was one of two nominated experts, sitting for five consecutive terms from 1996 to 2011, on the Public and Environmental Health Council in South Australia. She is also chief author of Environmental Health in Australia and New Zealand, published by Oxford University Press. In 2005, she was awarded the Haines Norton award for Environmental Health Professional of the Year.
Professor Cromar obtained a BSc (Hons) and PhD from Edinburgh Napier University. She has previously worked at Edinburgh Napier, the Scottish Agricultural College and the University of Adelaide, before coming to Flinders in 1999. Prior to her current appointment, Professor Cromar was Deputy Dean of the School of the Environment and Associate Head of Faculty (International and Strategic Partnerships) for the Faculty of Science and Engineering at Flinders University.
