After Hours Access - Students and Staff

University buildings are secured by an electronic access system. Most buildings are locked between 6.30pm and 7.45am on weekdays and throughout weekends and public holidays. Some computer rooms are locked at all times.

To gain after hours access, take your staff or student ID card to your school or department office where the relevant officer will determine which buildings and rooms you are authorised to enter. The Security Office will then program the system to accept your card at appropriate entrances.

To unlock doors swipe your card through the card reader, with the numbered stripe on the card towards the wide part of the reader. When the green light shows, the door will open.

It is important that you:
  • inform the Security Office immediately if you lose your card
  • do not allow anyone else to use your card to gain access to a building
  • do not allow others to enter through a door you have opened with your card.

For further information phone the Security Clerk on ext 8201 3153 or call into the Security Office near the entrance to the Central Library.
