Certificate in Disability Studies

INTRODUCTION

The Certificate in Disability Studies is an 18-unit program which is designed for off-shore delivery to meet the needs and demands of professionals working in the field of disability services. The course is offered by the Faculty of Health Sciences.

Topics successfully completed may be credited to the Bachelor of Disability and Community Rehabilitation.


COURSE AIMS

The course aims to provide students with basic skills necessary for beginning practice as a professional in the field of disabilities. Graduates will have the potential to work in government or non-government agencies which provide care, social and behavioural supports to a wide range of people with disabilities across the lifespan.


COURSE RULE

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

The minimum requirements for entry to all undergraduate courses are specified in detail in the University Entry Requirements. International students should seek information from the Department of Disability Studies.

Applicants seeking admission on the grounds of relevant employment experience should submit a detailed curriculum vitae, description of relevant work experience and three professional references.

PROGRAM OF STUDY [November, 2007]

To qualify for the Certificate in Disability Studies a student must complete 18 units with a grade of P or NGP or better in each topic, according to the approved program of study.

Topics will mostly be taken from First Year topics available in the Bachelor of Disability and Community Rehabilitation.
