Speech Pathology
Speech Pathology is one of the sciences of human communication, primarily focused on the assessment, diagnosis, treatment and management of people having difficulty communicating or swallowing effectively. Speech Pathologists are employed in the public and private sectors.Speech Pathologists treat people affected by surgery, brain damage or disease of the nervous system and people with difficulties acquiring normal speech sounds or language. Graduates have also gone onto postgraduate research studies in Speech Pathology and graduate entry programs in Audiology, Law and Medicine.
Speech pathology is a growing profession with an ever-increasing number of graduates entering the workforce and making significant contributions to the community.
Where can our graduates go?
In South Australia the major government employing agencies are the Department for Education and Children's Services, and the Department of Human Services. Private organisations include the Autism Association, Novita Children's Services and private practices. Graduates are able to seek positions in rural South Australia, interstate and overseas in areas such as: child care centres; community health centres; hospitals; mental health centres; nursing homes; schools; rehabilitation centres; research; universities.
