Students at Risk Transition Program - Christies Beach High School
When I encouraged young people it made a huge difference to how they approached their work. It feels good to be able to support students to submit work that they never thought they could do.
It was also a great cultural experience for both the students and myself. There are a lot of similarities between the backgrounds of the students that I am working with and my old school in Japan.
I have a lot more confidence in my interpersonal skills after being a mentor for one semester.

The INSPIRE Peer Mentoring Program has been a great experience for me. I have been working with the same students for two years now. The students are in years 9, 10 and 11. Over the past two years I have had the opportunity to not only assist students in their schooling, but I've also had the privilege to gain their trust and have developed a very positive relationship with each of them. Personally I have been able to use and discover new skills in communication, leadership and organisation. Each of these skills will be valuable in any path I choose to take in the future. I am thoroughly enjoying my time at Hamilton Secondary College and the students say that they look forward to our sessions together too. |
