  • Information and Registration Process for Mentors

    AlI mentor positions are voluntary.

All mentors negotiate their availbility with the school/youth organisation. As a guide, most mentors commit to approximately 2 hours per week throughout the school semester.

To participate in the program you must be an enrolled student at Flinders University. You will need to fill in the application form, read the 'Expectations of Mentors' and 'Mandatory Notification Guidelines', sign the forms to agree to the expectations and to say that you have read and understand the guidelines, obtain a police check and attend a training session before going on placement.

When placed as an INSPIRE Peer Mentor, you are expected to:

    • have a current police check.
    • have completed all of the required forms below.
    • have attended in total 6 hours of training.
    • pay for and organise your own travel costs to and from your mentor project
    • negotiate the time and day of  your mentor session with the school/youth organisation contact person.
    • arrive promptly for all mentor sessions and discuss with your contact person in advance any necessary changes with your supervisor and young person.
    • commit to your mentor project for the full semester.
    • interact appropriately, as outlined in the 'Expectations of Mentors' with the staff and young people whom you work with.
    • assist in any monitoring and evaluation processes required.

Students who participate in INSPIRE are insured for public liability through Flinders University. In addition, Flinders University provides students with disability and injury cover, in case of injury during placement.
