With SIFE Teams in 28 Universities around Australia, students are making a difference in their local communities, through entreprising educational outreach projects.
Challenging students to take what they learn in the classroom and apply their knowledge to real working situations.
Flinders University teams continue to perform strongly at a National level, and for the past three years have successfully secured HSBC's International Financial Literacy Grants to expand their projects. SIFE is an international initiative in
which students participate by undertaking entrepreneurial outreach projects,
applying their academic knowledge in real working situations. Founded
in 1975 and active on more than 1000 college and university campuses in
28 countries, SIFE provides students the opportunity to make a difference
and to develop leadership, teamwork and communication skills through learning,
practicing and teaching the principles of free enterprise.
In the national competition, each SIFE Team presents
the enterprise education outreach projects they conducted
for the current year. Teams do this by distributing written
annual report and giving an oral presentation to a judging
panel of over 30 business executives and entrepreneurs from major
companies from around Australia. The winning team goes on to represent Australia
at a SIFE World Cup.
Flinders teams have comprised students
from: Environmental Management, Engineering, Accounting, Banking and International Finance, Justice
and Society, Arts, Business and Economics, International Business,
Commerce, Information Technology and Cultural Tourism.
The Flinders have participated since SIFE began in Australia in 2002.
Verity Kingsmill, from the University's Careers & Employer Liaison Centre, has provided advice, direction and Mentoring to the Team over the past three years.
