    Graduate Profile: DAFF: Emily Stutterd
Bachelor of Technology - Aquaculture (Flinders University South Australia),Diploma in Aquaculture (Spencer Institute of TAFE). Joined DAFF in 2001.

My graduate year was really enjoyable and fun! I met a great bunch of new friends and found the work I was involved in very challenging and rewarding. The broad DAFF portfolio gave me the opportunity to not only put my studies to good use but also to diversify my knowledge and gain experience in the range of issues, which comprise DAFF's portfolio, and also the public service in general.

My rotations covered working on Indigenous aquaculture issues in Bureau of Rural Sciences, auditing the Northern Australia Quarantine Strategy (NAQS) for AQIS and preparing an Issues paper for the Prime Minister's Science, Engineering and Innovation Council Working Group while working in Industry Development. During my graduate year I was also lucky enough to undertake a fair amount of travel. My most exciting trip was travelling from Broome to Cairns and then Darwin (and many places in between!) to audit the NAQS exotic pest and disease monitoring programs. I was able to accompany AQIS and NAQS officers into the field and assist with sentinel herd testing, veterinary inspections of feral cattle and inspection and maintenance of fruit fly and screw-worm fly traps.

DAFF offers plenty of training and development opportunities, both through the Graduate Development Program and through individual work areas. Overall the graduate year has been a great start to my career and I would definitely recommend it to any prospective graduates!
