    Biodiversity is the study of all living organisms in the environment, the range of different species that are found in each place and why this differs from place to place, and the methods that we can use to manage ecosystems to conserve as many of those species as possible. Their broad training in biology and specific technical and quantitative skills will also equip them to pursue careers in a wide variety of related areas.

    RANGER
    National Park

    The Ranges Region requires the services of a Ranger OPS2 to contribute to the management of the North Flinders District by undertaking a range of duties including provision of visitor services and liaison with the Aboriginal community, protection of natural and cultural resources, and management of visitor facilities.

    Graduates can work in:

    • Government bodies involved with biodiversity and conservation (including national parks, museums and herbaria)
    • Education bodies
    • Research and development authorities
    • Consultancies
    • Private companies working in such areas as mine site rehabilitation, environmental monitoring, or the pharmaceuticals industry.

    MURRAYLANDS REGION REGIONAL ECOLOGIST
    National Parks and Wildlife SA

    This Department is seeking to employ a competent person as its Regional Ecologist in the Murraylands Region of its National Parks and Wildlife Division. The person will report to the Manager Conservation Programs and will be responsible for the development and implementation of programs for the conservation, management and restoration of ecological systems both on and off park within the Region.

    Essential Qualifications: Degree in the field of Ecology, Biodiversity Management, Natural Resource Management or equivalent.

    Graduate Careers Australia's (GCA) annual Australian Graduate Survey ( AGS ) is a study of the activities of new higher education graduates around four months after the completion of their qualifications. New graduates are surveyed regarding their major activities, including full-time study, full or part-time employment, seeking employment or their unavailability for work or study.

    2007 Graduates at a glance:

    • Of bachelor degree graduates who were available for full-time employment in 2007; 95 per cent were employed within four months of completing their degrees
    • One-fifth of respondents (20.0 per cent), were undertaking further full-time study after completing their bachelor qualifications
    • The typical (median) annual starting salary for new Australian resident bachelor degree graduates aged less than 25 and in their first full-time employment in Australia was $43,000

    National Parks and Wildlife SA (NPWSA)

    Want to make a difference? Committed to conserving Australia's biodiversity? Possess drive, energy and passion? You will provide ecological information and advice to local communities and ensure NPWSA's biodiversity conservation programs meet sound ecological criteria. Responsible for developing and implementing programs to conserve, manage and restore ecological systems, both on-park and off-park, and for regional priorities and strategic action plans to achieve biodiversity outcomes.

    REQUIREMENTS: Degree in Ecology, Biodiversity Management, Natural Resource Management or equivalent. Wide experience in biodiversity conservation.
