Weed Risk Analyst, Cooperative Research Centre for Australian Weed Management (Weeds CRC)
The Weeds CRC has a one-year position available to provide research assistance for evaluation and refinement of a border weed risk assessment system. The appointee will assist the Weed Incursion & Risk Management Program Leader and Weed Risk Evaluation Task Leader in data analysis, literature research and preparation of reports.
The appointee will have a background in plant science with experience in data analysis, statistics and information management. He or she will have well-developed report-writing and literature review skills. A working knowledge of weed biology and their impacts is essential. A science degree or equivalent is required. |

We seek a Biometrician who is able to contribute to a variety of science project areas that range across animal production, hydrology, natural resource management, crop production and farming systems. The salary range for this Grade 3 position is $42,021 to $51,021. Recent graduates are encouraged to apply for the Grade 3 position.
All applicants for both positions must be able to demonstrate:
- a high level of communication skills including proven ability to communicate statistical ideas to a wide range of audiences;
- experience in the application of mathematical statistics to agriculture or other biological sciences, and longitudinal studies;
- experience in statistical consulting and collaboration, especially in the design of experiments, with researchers from other disciplines;
- experience in the use of statistical packages such as GenStat, R and BUGS; and
- a degree or advanced diploma in statistics / mathematical statistics or an equivalent qualification.

Graduate Careers Australia's (GCA) annual Australian Graduate Survey ( AGS ) is a study of the activities of new higher education graduates around four months after the completion of their qualifications. New graduates are surveyed regarding their major activities, including full-time study, full or part-time employment, seeking employment or their unavailability for work or study.
2007 Graduates at a glance:
- Of bachelor degree graduates who were available for full-time employment in 2007; 95 per cent were employed within four months of completing their degrees
- One-fifth of respondents (20.0 per cent), were undertaking further full-time study after completing their bachelor qualifications
- The typical (median) annual starting salary for new Australian resident bachelor degree graduates aged less than 25 and in their first full-time employment in Australia was $43,000
