    Where can our graduates go?

    Disability Professionals' interests are broad, incorporating health and educational issues and the social and vocational skills of people with developmental or acquired disabilities. They are equipped to:

    • Promote the physical and emotional well-being of people with disabilities
    • Teach functional skills such as communication and language, self-care and domestic skills, social and recreational skills, and employment skills
    • Provide case management services to people with disabilities
    • Liaise and work with community services and other professionals
    • Facilitate self advocacy and/or negotiate on behalf of people with disabilities
    • Work independently or as part of a team.

    (My position involves) assisting staff of child care, vacation care and out of school hours care services to include children with additional needs by providing specialised training on issues relating to children with special needs, support and advocacy for inclusion, support and assistance in developing and adapting programme activities to encourage the participation of a child with additional needs in a mainstream program and promoting effective liaison with parents, staff and other professionals.

This position requires an energetic person with sound interpersonal skills and experience in management, client assessment and program planning. A Tertiary qualification with a focus on Aged Care or Disability Care is required. Experience in working with HACC clients or similar experience is essential.

    Developmental Educator, Autism SA

    The position involves working with individual students with an Autism Spectrum Disorder within school settings.     Graduate Development Program, Comcare

    This is an excellent opportunity for you to develop valuable, transferable skills such as customer service, interpretation of legislation, time management and communication skills in a supportive environment.     Graduate Careers Australia's (GCA) annual Australian Graduate Survey ( AGS ) is a study of the activities of new higher education graduates around four months after the completion of their qualifications. New graduates are surveyed regarding their major activities, including full-time study, full or part-time employment, seeking employment or their unavailability for work or study.

    2007 Graduates at a glance:

    • Of bachelor degree graduates who were available for full-time employment in 2007; 95 per cent were employed within four months of completing their degrees
    • One-fifth of respondents (20.0 per cent), were undertaking further full-time study after completing their bachelor qualifications
    • The typical (median) annual starting salary for new Australian resident bachelor degree graduates aged less than 25 and in their first full-time employment in Australia was $43,000
