    Where can our graduates go?

    Prior graduates have completed the course and taken up positions in the chemical, pharmaceutical, food and forensic industries and in government agencies. Recent records indicate that all of the previous graduates gained employment in a variety of chemistry related fields within the Australian Federal Police, marine chemical investigations, forensic, analytical, winery and environmental laboratories. One graduate was a presenter with the Questacon Science Circus!

    Team Member Chemical Criminalistics - Forensic Services, AFP

    The Forensic Team Member undertaking chemical trace evidence examinations (Chemical Criminalistics) contributes to a forensic team by providing effective and efficient forensic support to AFP operations and, where appropriate, external clients.

    The successful applicant should possess an undergraduate degree with a major in Chemistry.

    Analytical chemists are increasingly in demand in areas as diverse as:

    • Monitoring of food and water quality
    • Dealing with pollution problems
    • Testing for the use and abuse of drugs

    QUALITY CONTROL CHEMIST (Graduate Opportunity)
    As a major Australian owned company with operations in Australia, New Zealand and the United States we are seeking to appoint a Quality Control Chemist to join our team at our state-of-the-art Kilburn Operations facility.

    We are seeking to appoint a recent Graduate in Chemistry or related discipline. Reporting to the Works Chemist the successful applicant will be primarily involved in routine quality control tasks associated with production manufacture of water-based architectural surface coatings. Further areas of involvement will include a broad range of routine technical activities including laboratory sample making and testing, short-term development of formulations and routine refinement of testing techniques.

    LABORATORY TECHNICIAN - Wine company
    (Casual position)
    We are seeking a self-motivated, team-oriented individual who works well under pressure, to prepare grape samples for analysis, to conduct small scale fermentations and to perform routine chemical analysis of wine and grape products in the Institute's commercial Analytical Service. The successful applicant is expected to have a qualifications in Analytical Chemistry or equivalent. Experience in a wine industry laboratory would be an advantage.

    Graduate Careers Australia's (GCA) annual Australian Graduate Survey ( AGS ) is a study of the activities of new higher education graduates around four months after the completion of their qualifications. New graduates are surveyed regarding their major activities, including full-time study, full or part-time employment, seeking employment or their unavailability for work or study.

    2007 Graduates at a glance:

    • Of bachelor degree graduates who were available for full-time employment in 2007; 95 per cent were employed within four months of completing their degrees
    • One-fifth of respondents (20.0 per cent), were undertaking further full-time study after completing their bachelor qualifications
    • The typical (median) annual starting salary for new Australian resident bachelor degree graduates aged less than 25 and in their first full-time employment in Australia was $43,000
