You are looking to determine your:
- Abilities and skills - When talking about abilities, people
often refer to a combination of factors, including learned skills,
natural aptitudes and personality. Interests - What interests
you will be different from what interests the next person. Your
interest may be significant in itself (e.g. music, technology)
or the satisfaction gained from your interest may be significant
(e.g. a person with a keen interest in outdoor activities may
look for a job that includes a significant component of this.)
- Values - Values relate to the purpose or cause for which you
prefer to use your talents.
- Temperament - This is to do with how you come across to other
people and deal with them, how you approach and deal with tasks
and how you react in different situations. Your temperament can
affect how comfortable you are with what you do.
You should also look at:
- Your degree -- What have you enjoyed most, and why? Have you
disliked anything. Why?
- Employment/Work experience -- Whether it is full or part-time,
paid or voluntary it all significant. What did you enjoy most,
and why? Why did you do it? Who else did you work with? What did
you learn from it? What aspects would you not want to repeat?
Why?
- Community/Lesiure activities -- What have you done, and why?
What have you enjoyed most? What skills have you developed?
