How can I find out about different careers?
Attend a 'Drop In'
If you would like to explore where further study fits with your career development, or if you are unsure about your career goals, visit the Careers and Employer Liaison Centre. We have Drop Ins at the Careers and Employer Liaison Centre (Top Floor, Student Centre) where a Career Development Consultant is available on a first come first served basis to discuss your career queries. Drop In times change each week - to find out about Drop In times for each week, please check the 'What's On/current events' section of the Careers and Employer Liaison Centre web site
This is usually updated on Friday afternoons for the following week.
Investigate the extensive array of resources available at the Careers and Employer Liaison Centre (Third Floor, Student Centre) and on our website .
For example: Use the online resources at "What jobs suit me?' to help you identify what is important to you in a career and to develop your ideas about careers that may interest you.
GradFacts : GradFacts Handout series What can I do with my degree in ....?
These include examples of possible job titles and employers, plus numerous web links for all undergraduate degrees.
Fact Folders : Visit the Careers and Employer Liaison Centre Resource Room (Top Floor, Student Centre), and browse through our Fact Folders (available for all undergraduate degrees and some postgraduate degrees). You'll find information on career options, profiles and articles, organizations of interest, examples of job advertisements and graduate recruitment programs, and more!
Another useful website is the My Future website. The section, "My Guide", contains career exploration activities. For example, in the "Identifying" process you can build your own personal profile of interests, skills, values and more, and then use this to identify career ideas. Then in the section, "The Facts", you can access occupation descriptions, labour market information and so on.
At the Graduate Careers Australia site free PDF career information booklets are available on a wide range of fields, for example All Graduates, Accounting, Engineering, Journalism, Teaching, Psychology, Human Resources, Law, Nursing and Midwifery, Science, Environment, Social Science Research and many other titles.
