Teaching Awards celebrate a group of the nation’s most outstanding university teachers in their fields. The Awards give recognition to teachers (individuals and teams) renowned for the excellence of their teaching, who have outstanding presentation skills and who have made a broad and deep contribution to enhancing the quality of learning and teaching in higher education.

Teaching Awards are often a logical “next step” from local teaching awards.

Consider your teaching in the bigger picture. Lift your vision up and out from your own reflection. Talk to your colleagues about what you do and why, and start collecting evidence.

Good nominations show:

  • Passion and engagement.
  • Innovation, particularly in overcoming challenges related to teaching.
  • Sustained impact with evidence for claims.
  • Effort beyond what is expected: from good to great! Your evidence needs to be connected to your claims.

Evidence can be quantitative and qualitative. It can include quotes, survey results, records of change, and uptake of ideas by peers. Other useful sources of evidence are listed here.

Please note that in 2018 the prize money for this award is TBC, and that there is a reduction in the number of awards offered. Details about these changes can be found here.
