Each participant is required to attend at least six hours of teaching and learning focused academic development in addition to the specific FFOUT workshop days. The key thing to bear in mind is that you will need to write a reflective statement in your Personal Learning Portfolio on the teaching and learning development opportunity you attended outlining why you selected the particular activity, and what you learnt from it.

There are two options for you:

  1. You can join in Flinders' Centre for Innovation in Teaching and Learning sessions. Our courses can be found at http://www.flinders.edu.au/staffdev/index.php/teaching and http://www.flinders.edu.au/staffdev/index.php/edict . The courses should take a total of approximately six hours of your time and must extend or deepen your understanding of Learning and Teaching in the University context. Sessions such as those on ‘Assessment' or ‘Designing Online Courses' are appropriate, however, more procedural or technical sessions such as ‘Orientation for Academic Staff' or ‘Managing the Gradebook in FLO' are not suitable. Other workshops that are not suitable are those related to the completion of other mandatory programs (e.g. Work Integrated Learning (WIL) or Post Graduate Supervision). Please note that there is heavy demand for videoconference venues, so we may not always be able to link in staff at other campuses, but if you are based away from Bedford Park please give us at least one week's notice and we will try and arrange for you to be linked to the session.

  2. AND/OR you can participate in other events that extend or deepen your understanding of Learning and Teaching in the University context. These should total approximately six hours of your time and be facilitated by experts in the field. Suitable examples include: attendance at plenaries and workshops at a Learning & Teaching (L&T) conference (or L&T sessions within a discipline-based conference), attendance at L&T seminars run by other sections of Flinders or other universities (e.g. Flinders Innovations in Clinical Education seminars). Participation in L&T Journal Clubs, Community of Practice meetings, Open Classroom sessions, webinars (e.g. http://www.transformingassessment.com/ ), etc. may also be included. It will be up to you to discuss how the activity/ies extended or deepened your understanding of L&T in the University context in your PLP.
