The Colleague Assisted Topic Improvement Scheme (CATIS) is an OLT-supported framework where you can ‘pair’ up with one or more colleagues’ topic/s to reinvigorate or improve your own. It is an outcome of the PATS project run through Monash University and piloted at 14 other universities nationally. This scheme has a proven track record of topic improvement and subsequent improvement in Student Evaluations of Teaching (SETs).
The Centre University Teaching and now the Centre for Innovation in Learning and Teaching (CILT) has supported this scheme throughout 2014, 2015 and now 2016. The CATIS framework includes a structured workbook, observation of teaching and some critical reflection and CILT continues to support staff involved by arranging catch-up meeting with others involved in the scheme, coffee vouchers and provision of workbooks. A time commitment of approximately 10 hours across the semester / year is generally required to participate.
This scheme is open to all academic staff involved in coordinating topics.
Please contact the Centre for Innovation in Learning and Teaching if you would like any more information.
