AusStats (ABS data)

AusStats is the web-based information services of the Australian Bureau of Statistics. It provides you with access to the complete range of products available from the ABS online, and it is updated daily at 11:30am.

AusStats allows you to conveniently a large range of ABS statistical and reference information, free of charge. All this information is linked together to provide easy one stop access to the ABS statistical information on the Web site. AusStats provides unrestricted access to:

• Over 2,000 spreadsheets (90,000 series) from the existing ABS Time Series service;
• All ABS publications (including Standard Data Service) from 1998 onwards in Adobe Acrobat format (.pdf);
• Multidimensional datasets in SuperTABLE format;
• Census Basic Community Profiles to the Statistical Local Area (SLA) level in Excel format

How do I access AusStats data?

You have free access to AusStats from your desktop. University users should read the Terms and Conditions of Use prior to using AusStats.

The AusStats home page is at www.ausstats.abs.gov.au. Use the links on the left of the main AusStats page to select an area of interest. Publications & Data will let you browse the ABS collection - if you don't know where to start try the ABS Catalogue link. The Statistical Concepts Library details the standard ABS classification schemes on such things as employment categories, education levels and religious categories. This information can be useful in the design of questionnaires.
