Students may use the versions of SPSS installed in university labs and computer rooms while on campus. If you wish to use SPSS on your home computer then you will need to purchase a copy for your own use. There are two versions (apart from the expensive full version).
The University has purchased a limited number of copies of the SPSS Graduate Pack, as described above, for distribution to postgraduate students. Students wishing to apply for a copy should complete the application form and return it to Sue Harry. You will also need to show your current student card.
If there are insufficient licences through the university subsidised scheme then you have the same options as for undergraduate students.
Please note the system requirements for the Graduate Packs:
SPSS 15 for Windows: Windows XP or 2000, 256 MB RAM, 400 MB hard drive space
Amos 7 for Windows: Windows XP or 2000, 256 MB RAM, 125 MB hard drive space
Note: SPSS 15 can be made compatible with Microsoft Vista by applying a SPSS hotfix
SPSS 13 for Mac: OS X version 10.3.9 running Java 1.4.2, G4 667 MHz processor, 256 MB RAM (512 MB recommended if using OS X Tiger)
Note: SPSS 13 is not supported on the new Intel-based Mac hardware.
Members of staff who have a substantial appointment (as defined by SPSS this does not include casual tutors) are allowed to have a copy of SPSS installed on their home computers.
You will need to print and sign a form which specifies the conditions of your use and return it to your faculty representative to obtain the overnight loan of a CD to install the software.
Please note that you will have the right to use the software for a limited time and you do not in any way have ownership of the software.
