Site and Volume Licensed Software

SPSS

SPSS is a computer application which provides statistical analysis of data. It allows for in-depth data access and preparation, analytical reporting, segmentation and predictive modeling. More analytical power can be added by using optional SPSS modules.

Licence Type

This is an annual renewable site licence beginning on 1 May each year. During the term of the licence the University is entitled to all new versions and minor upgrades at no additional charge.

Licence Costs

There is no cost to the indiviual user; the cost is met from a central budget.

Hardware

Windows based PCs, Macintosh and IBM AIX platforms are supported.

Workplace Use

Available for installation on computers used by:

  • staff employed by Flinders University
  • staff with current formal academic status granted by Flinders University
  • staff not directly employed by Flinders University, but whose major employment task is research or clerical support for a member of Flinders academic staff
  • students currently enrolled at Flinders University

Home Use Licence

The right to use SPSS at home ceases immediately upon termination of employment at Flinder University or the cessation of enrolment by a student. A condition of the licence is that the software must be completely removed from your computer should your formal association with Flinders end.

Details on how to obtain a copy of SPSS for home use are supplied on the SPSS web page.

Copies of SPSS for installation on University based computers are obtainable from your local faculty support staff.

Documentation

User manuals for SPSS are available through the University Book Store.

Support

Your local computing support staff can assist with installation of the product on your workplace computer. Support for home computers is not provided.

The University employs a full time statistical consultant to provide assistance to staff, postgraduate and honours students in areas of their research that require the use of statistical methods. Her brief is to assist clients to help themselves rather than to conduct either research or analysis on their behalf. Details are available here.

If you think you have uncovered a bug in the SPSS software you can register the details at our web site and these will be reported to the SPSS vendor's support staff.
