Education
Flinders has one of the most comprehensive education programs in Australia, incorporating a range of undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications for prospective teachers and those already teaching, and specialised courses for those who wish to work with gifted students.
As well as a School of Education, the university houses the Flinders University Institute for International Education.
Undergraduate options
For 2005, the following three programs been revised to provide for:
- First degree students to complete a combined degrees program of a Bachelor of Education with either a Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, or Bachelor of Health Sciences in four years.
- Graduate-entry students to complete the Bachelor of Education only in two years. A combined degrees program is not available.
Junior Primary/Primary Teaching: for students who wish to teach Reception through to Year 7.
Middle School [formerly Upper Primary/Lower Secondary Teaching]: for students who wish to teach ages 10 to 15.
Secondary: for students who wish to teach Years 8 to 12.
Education Studies: A major sequence in a Bachelor of Arts for students who are interested in careers in tutoring or educational research or administration, but do not require formal teaching qualifications.
Special Education: Two graduate-entry programs are offered, one for trained teachers and one for students looking to acquire teaching qualifications with specific expertise in special education.
Postgraduate options
Education: Our articulated coursework program incorporates a Graduate Certificate and a flexible Masters degree that can be taken as a generic degree of one of six named specialisations - Research and Innovation, Social Justice in Education, Special Education, Leadership and Management, Gifted Education, and Studies of Asia. The Masters also operates in parallel with the coursework Doctor of Education.
