Areas of study

Law and justice

Flinders offers an innovative law course which emphasises legal skills and critical perspectives on the law's role, and has been widely praised for its flexibility and modern approach.

But not only prospective lawyers study law these days, and there are other options (and career opportunities) for those with an interest in legal issues.

Undergraduate options

All four of these areas can be studied to Honours level.

Criminal Justice: A major sequence in a Bachelor of Arts which trains criminologists and others looking for careers in the broad field of criminal justice.

Justice and Society: A degree program combining legal studies, philosophy and sociology which gives students the intellectual tools to understand and evaluate the way the legal system works in society.

Laws and Legal Practice: A professionally-accredited degree which provides all the training needed to enter legal practice, work as an inhouse lawyer in business, government or community organisations, or become involved with legal reform, administration or policy development.

Legal Studies: A major sequence in a Bachelor of Arts which analyses the standard methods and skills in legal reasoning and legal research, and provides an introduction to the Australian legal system.

A Bachelor of Laws and Legal Practice can be studied in a combined degrees program with a number of degrees. See combined degrees programs.

Postgraduate options

A Master of Law also can be taken by research. For information about areas of research interest at Flinders consult the School of Law website.
