These are courses for anyone interested in the practice of history in applied or everyday contexts. The emphasis is very much on carrying out history-related work across a range of historical disciplines. Options from which students may choose include community history, family history, archaeology, museum studies and heritage studies. Both the Graduate Certificate and Graduate Diploma undertake to introduce and develop applied skills in these areas.
The courses are open to - but by no means restricted to - practitioners in government or in other public or private institutions. One component of the courses, Practical Genealogy for Family Historians, is available as a stand-alone topic conducted as a series of workshops. Students who successfully complete this topic will be awarded a Certificate of Achievement.
The curriculum of the Graduate Certificate offers a wide range of choice so that students will be able to pursue their own particular interests and learning needs. To complete the course successfully, students will need to pass at least 12 units from the following 6-unit topics:
