This articulated program offered by the Faculty of Health Sciences is professionally oriented. The Graduate Certificate is designed to meet the needs of practitioners working in education, health and community services that support people with disabilities.

Students choose topics relevant to their area of specialty. These may include: autism, behaviour management, community inclusion, technology and disability, intellectual disability, physical disabilities, communication difficulties and transition from school to adult life for students with disabilities. Additional Graduate Certificates in specific areas such as Autism Spectrum Disorders and Technology and Augmentative Communication, are also available. Other specialist areas such as Down Syndrome and Dual Disabilities are offered from time to time, in response to community interest.

The Masters provides advanced professional experience for graduates from a range of professional fields associated with disabilities, including nursing, psychology, social work, education and medicine, and assists them to become effective and competent leaders and scholars in the field of disability studies. It is concerned, at an advanced level, with general principles relating to disabilities, but students are invited to specialise in areas of particular interest.

The full program of study is set out in the Course rule and topic descriptions for the relevant degree(s).

Entry requirements
Applicants for both courses normally must hold an approved degree, diploma or equivalent qualification and have had relevant work experience in disability or an allied profession such as special education.
The Masters degree is a 72-unit course but credit of up to 36 units may be granted for an approved four-year degree and/or relevant work experience. Students who have completed the Graduate Certificate or equivalent receive credit when progressing to the Masters. Masters students may exit with a Graduate Certificate after completing sufficient studies.
