Overview

The Graduate Certificate in Education (Vision Impairment) is designed for practicing teachers, school leaders and advisory personnel who work with students with vision impairment, those who have a general interest in developing their knowledge in this area and those who aspire to enter this specialisation.

The course aims to develop a critical awareness of the nature of vision impairment and the impact of loss of vision on development, learning and social/emotional well being. Functional perspectives relating to access to the curriculum, inclusion, Braille, orientation and mobility and approaches to teaching and learning will be considered in some depth.

Entry requirements

Applicants must normally hold an approved degree or equivalent qualification in education, from an approved tertiary institution. Applicants must have not less than two years' experience working in a school as a teacher.

The University may, under certain circumstances and subject to specific conditions, admit others who can show that they demonstrate the experience, knowledge and aptitude required to undertake the course. Please contact the University for further advice.
