Graduate Certificate in Education

This course is for the working specialist professional and short-term visitor, including those employed or seeking to be employed in education, special education or educational management and those who have an interest in developing their knowledge in these areas.

The program of study involves advanced coursework in aspects of research, theory and practice. There is scope for teachers to accredit appropriate professional development.


Master of Education

The Master of Education is an in-depth coursework program that allows students to create individual programs to suit their interests and thus shape their own educational pathways, with the option to include a project or research dissertation. The program is designed to meet the increasing demand for professional development for educators. Topics and research supervision are available in a range of areas.


Note: The Master of Education and related specialisations does not qualify graduates for teacher registration.

Entry requirements

Applicants for the Graduate Certificate must normally hold an approved Bachelor degree or equivalent qualification from an approved tertiary institution.

Some specialisations have additional requirements, such as a degree in a specific field and/or relevant employment experience.

Applicants for the Master of Education will qualify for either a basic or a progressive entry level. Applicants who hold an approved bachelor degree in any discipline are eligible for the basic entry level, and will complete up to 72 units of study. Applicants who hold a bachelor degree in education, teaching or a closely related discipline are eligible for the progressive entry level, and will complete up to 54 units of study.

The Faculty Board may under certain circumstances and subject to specific conditions admit others who can show evidence of fitness for candidature.

Credit may be granted, on application, for: prior study completed in a relevant Honours, Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma or Masters degree; accredited professional development; or relevant work experience. In addition, some unspecified credit for a minimum of 2 years relevant work experience may be awarded.
