This is a specialised course for social workers, nurses, teachers, counsellors and other professionals who wish to gain the specific skills and knowledge required to assist people suffering loss, grief or trauma.
The latest research in the area is emphasised and a range of approaches to counselling is included. Students gain an understanding of relevant theories related to loss, grief and trauma experiences and the ability to counsel people in a culturally effective manner.
The program of study offers a great deal of choice and every attempt is made to meet each student's interests and learning needs. All three topics are accepted towards the Master of Social Work for eligible students.
The practicum topic can involve practical experience at an organisation offering counselling in the loss, grief or trauma area, or the opportunity to work on a practice project related to loss, grief or trauma.
The full program of study is set out in the Course rule and topic descriptions for this degree.
