This articulated program offers specialist qualifications for people seeking or consolidating careers in international development and an opportunity for development practitioners to explore major issues of development in greater breadth and depth.

The Graduate Certificate introduces students to contemporary theory and practice in international development, drawing on theories and material from geography, sociology and political sciences.

The Graduate Diploma combines core topics on the theories and policy approaches to international development with the chance to pursue in greater depth interests in areas such as development policy, gender and development, or Asian development.

The Graduate Certificate and Graduate Diploma are available on-line for external study.

The Masters program examines theories of development, from modernisation to post-colonial and grassroots approaches, and explores a range of development policy areas. The mix of coursework and research can be tailored to personal needs and interests.

The program is international in scope, with generic topics offering case study material drawn from Asia-Pacific, Latin America and Africa. A selection of specialised topics is available on specific countries and regions.

Entry requirements
The normal minimum entry requirement for all three courses is an approved undergraduate degree or equivalent. Students who have completed the Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma (or other qualifications deemed equivalent) receive credit when progressing to the Graduate Diploma or Masters.

  2. Link via the GradStart button. Click on 'Want to Apply?' to begin your application.
  3. Submit your application. You will be sent a confirmation email.
You can apply for admission at any time during the year and GradStart applications are free.

If you receive any correspondence from SATAC requesting further information you will need to supply what is requested. Your application cannot be processed until all requested information is received. Note: you must be a citizen or permanent resident of Australia to apply through GradStart.

Australian citizens, and those holding an Australian permanent humanitarian visa who meet eligibility criteria, are eligible to defer their fees through the Higher Education Loan Program (FEE-HELP). Contact Student Finance Services on (08) 8201 3143 for details.
