The Graduate Certificate introduces students to key theoretical concepts, major historical themes and significant current issues and provides an introduction to an international relations perspective on the Asia-Pacific region in particular.
The Graduate Diploma builds on this program, providing a more advanced appreciation of key themes and issues.
The Masters provides advanced grounding in the academic debates and research literatures in international relations. There is a strong focus on developments in the Asia-Pacific region, particularly the relationships between China, Japan, Taiwan, ASEAN and the US, and the implications of the rise of the East Asian economy. Masters students in Australia can choose either a coursework or research stream.
Candidates for the Graduate Certificate in International Relations must complete 3 topics (6 units each) and candidates for the Graduate Diploma must complete 6 topics.
The Master of Arts program offered in Adelaide allows students to undertake either a coursework stream or a research stream.
Students in either stream are required to complete the core topic International Relations and World Politics (which can be weighted at either 6 or 12 units).
Students in the coursework stream then undertake an independent, supervised study leading to a 12-unit research project or 18-unit dissertation and select elective topics as required.
Students in the research stream undertake an independent, supervised study leading to a 24-unit dissertation of about 30,000 words and select one elective topic if required.
