GRADUATE CERTIFICATE IN LANGUAGE TEACHING

This course is designed for qualified teachers who wish to become LOTE teachers in French, Italian, Modern Greek, Spanish or Indonesian but have limited or no knowledge of that language. More advanced students may be admitted, with the permission of the coordinator of the relevant language, if they wish to improve their linguistic competence.

This course will enable teachers who may not have completed studies in a second language, as part of their undergraduate degree, to complete an 18-unit program in teaching a second language at primary level.

This course articulates with the Graduate Diploma in Language Teaching and Master of Language Studies.

GRADUATE DIPLOMA IN LANGUAGE TEACHING

This course is designed for qualified teachers who wish to become LOTE teachers in French, Italian, Modern Greek, Spanish or Indonesian but have limited or no knowledge of that language. More advanced students may be admitted, with the permission of the coordinator of the relevant language, if they wish to improve their linguistic competence.

This course will enable teachers who may not have completed studies in a second language, as part of their undergraduate degree, to complete a 36-unit program in teaching a second language at primary or lower secondary level.

A one-day intensive program of language immersion, cultural studies and LOTE teaching methodology may be required. In addition, all students are encouraged to attend short-term intensive language courses in the target country at some stage during their two years of study, preferably during the second year. Some credit will be given for courses completed abroad provided adequate documentation is submitted.

The course articulates with the Master of Language Studies.

Entry requirements
Applicants normally must hold an approved undergraduate qualification, be eligible for registration as a teacher in South Australia and have had at least one year's teaching experience in a school, or other approved institution. However, the Faculty Board may, under certain circumstances and subject to specific conditions, admit others who can show evidence of fitness for candidature.

  3. Submit your application. You will be sent a confirmation email.
You can apply for admission at any time during the year and GradStart applications are free.

If you receive any correspondence from SATAC requesting further information you will need to supply what is requested. Your application cannot be processed until all requested information is received. Note: you must be a citizen or permanent resident of Australia to apply through GradStart.

Australian citizens, and those holding an Australian permanent humanitarian visa who meet eligibility criteria, are eligible to defer their fees through the Higher Education Loan Program (FEE-HELP). Contact Student Finance Services on (08) 8201 3143 for details.
