The Clinical Forensic Nursing stream will introduce students to the emerging specialty practice of clinical forensic nursing. It is available to registered nurses working in all areas of practice and will be of particular interest to nurses working in rural and remote areas, accident and emergency units, paediatrics, community health, women's health and aged care but may also be of interest to other disciplines.
Areas covered include: evidence recognition and the chain of custody, court structures, function and processes. writing a report for court; and being a witness in legal proceedings.
Students will also have the opportunity to examine forensic nursing roles, and forensic issues including sexual assault, euthanasia, suicide, prostitution, drug addictions, sexual assault, domestic violence, child abuse, industrial accidents and road traffic accidents, working with victims of crime, coroner's cases, forensic documentation, legal and ethical aspects of forensic nursing practice.
Flexibility within the topics allows students to negotiate a focus on specific issues that meet their specific needs relevant to their area of practice or interest.
