Overview

The High Dependency specialisation aims to advance the knowledge of registered nurses in tertiary medical and surgical health care settings.

This course is designed to meet the needs of nurses working in high dependency as well as upskilling registered nurses meet the needs of increasingly complex medical and surgical patients in a range of venues.

Students will develop advanced theoretical knowledge and specialist skills that are essential for the registered nurse.

Theoretic concepts and nursing skill will be linked to current case studies which will require critical analysis and exploration. The theoretical underpinnings of medical and surgical high acuity/high dependency nursing will be explored along with the issues associated with providing this nursing care.

Students will be required to complete a minimum of 24 shifts of professional experience placement. Certain statutory and other requirements must be met before any student is permitted to attend clinical placement including National Criminal and Relevant History Screening, SA Health Online Orientation Package (if your placement is within South Australia), immunisation updates, pre-place online orientation, statement of clinical support form and PEP ID card.
