Overview

These courses are designed to provide professional development for practitioners with backgrounds in gerontology, aged care or palliative care who are involved in policy, planning or the delivery of palliative care services to older people in a range of aged care settings.

It will introduce the basic skills and principles of palliative care within a broader study of ageing, which includes an examination of different views of ageing and the concepts of ageing and dying in a global context.

The curriculum will examine a multidisciplinary approach to problem solving, assessment and management and look at relevant legislative and ethical issues. Students will also develop the knowledge and skills required to assess and critique gerontological and palliative care research and will have the opportunity to develop skills in on-line learning and web-based research.
