Overview

This articulated program was developed in collaboration with CRANAplus (formerly the Council of Remote Area Nurses of Australia) and is offered in external mode through the Centre for Remote Health in Alice Springs, a joint Centre of Flinders University and the Charles Darwin University.

The Graduate Certificate and Graduate Diploma in Remote Health Practice and the Master of Remote and Indigenous Health aim to prepare health professionals new to or currently working in the remote contexts to work with the people and professionals of remote areas to keep remote and Indigenous people well and manage ill-health. Health professionals already working within the remote and Indigenous context are challenged to advance their knowledge of the discipline of Remote Health.

Entry requirements

Graduate Certificate: Applicants for the Graduate Certificate must normally hold an approved degree or equivalent qualification from an approved tertiary institution in a health related field.

Applicants undertaking the Nursing stream must have a minimum of one year post-registration experience and must be currently registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency as a Registered Nurse.

Applicants undertaking the Medical stream must be either concurrently enrolled in the Doctor of Medicine at Flinders University or currently registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency as a Medical Practitioner.

Graduate Diploma: Applicants for the Graduate Diploma who do not hold the Graduate Certificate in Remote Health Practice must normally hold an approved degree or equivalent qualification from an approved tertiary institution in a health related field.

Applicants undertaking the Nursing Stream must have a minimum of two years post-registration experience and must be currently registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency as a Registered Nurse.

Applicants undertaking the Medical Stream must be either currently enrolled in the Doctor of Medicine, Flinders University, or currently registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency as a Medical Practitioner.

Master: Applicants for the Master of Remote and Indigenous Health who do not hold the Graduate Diploma in Remote Health Practice must normally hold an approved degree from an approved tertiary institution in a health-related field, and have three years’ experience in a health related field

Students who have completed the Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma (or other qualifications deemed equivalent) receive credit for related topics when progressing to the Graduate Diploma or Masters.
