The Festival and Event Design and Management program is a professionally oriented program intended for people employed or looking to be employed in the festival and events, and tourism industries, as well as for those with a basic interest in developing their knowledge and skills in festival and event design and management.
It was developed at the request of, and in partnership with, Events South Australia (formerly Australian Major Events) and the South Australian Tourism Commission. The Graduate Certificate in Tourism (Festival and Event Design and Management) provides an introduction to the basic concepts in festival and event design and management, and the skills needed to apply this knowledge in all situations. It draws on both practical and theoretical material and allows students to apply their skills to a festival/event of their choice.
Each of the three topics is delivered as a three-day workshop with supporting non-contact assessable work. Topics are taken on campus at Flinders.
The Graduate Diploma in Tourism (Festival and Event Design and Management) builds on the basic concepts in festival and event design and management that are introduced in the Graduate Certificate. There are three 6-unit topics at Graduate Diploma level, which are selected from a range of topics including Research Methods, which is a prerequisite to the Master of Tourism Research Project. Graduate Diploma topics include those that focus on the specifics of event design, and provide opportunities for a practicum in event management. Other topics are from related areas with specific links to festival and event design and management.
The Master of Tourism (Festival and Event Design and Management) offers students the opportunity to extend their knowledge and skills in a particular area of festival and event design and management and to undertake a research project on a theme relevant to their own professional work.
This program provides an articulated pathway in postgraduate studies in tourism with exit points at Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma and Masters level.
