Gender issues shape political, cultural and social institutions, as well as personal identity and relationships. The interdisciplinary field of Women's Studies reflects this wide scope by including social, cultural and political perspectives.
The Master of Arts (Women's Studies) is a 72-unit program which incorporates the graduate program(s) available in Women's Studies. There are two levels of entry into the program - basic and advanced.
The course is offered by the Faculty of Social Sciences and can be taken by coursework OR research and is offered on a fee-paying basis only for students in the coursework stream.
The course is designed:
- to develop an appreciation of the rich, diverse and rapidly growing field of Women's Studies;
- to extend students' critical understanding and practice within the boundaries of a discipline area;
- to develop the capacity to apply interdisciplinary approaches to feminist questions; and
- to develop the conceptual and analytical thinking, and the research and writing skills, necessary to complete a successful thesis.
The full program of study is set out in the Course rule and topic descriptions for this degree.
Postgraduate studies in Women's Studies also can be pursued through a specialist stream in the Graduate Diploma in Gender and Development.
See also Graduate Certificate in Gender Mainstreaming Policy and Analysis.
