WHY PARAMEDIC STUDIES?

A specialised Paramedic stream is offered within the Bachelor of Health Sciences as a conversion course for people with existing paramedic qualifications and as a direct-entry program for anyone seeking a career as an paramedic officer, including school leavers.

The introduction of a broad-based program at university level is part of a move to ensure that all paramedic officers have the skills, knowledge and attitudes to enable them to provide emergency pre-hospital care of a sophisticated nature and ensure seamless care from site to hospital. The objective of the program is to ensure that the community receives optimum care in health emergencies from paramedic officers able to manage all situations in a manner consistent with best practice. Such an innovative approach to pre-hospital care has the support of hospitals and the medical profession.

CONVERSION PATHWAY
The conversion course is only available to applicants who have completed the Diploma of Applied Science (Ambulance Studies) or Intensive Care Paramedic Certificate (South Australia) from the Ambulance Education Unit, South Australia. Students in the conversion course will be given credit towards the degree on the basis of their previous ambulance qualifications.

GRADUATE-ENTRY
There is a quota of places for graduate-entry into the Paramedic stream. Graduates in Nursing, Health Sciences or Behavioural Science (Psychology) may be eligible for up to 54 units of credit (3 semesters equivalent) towards the degree. For further information phone 8201 5221.

WHAT JOBS WILL I GET?
