Business Economics

A Business Economics major sequence can be taken within a Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Government and Public Management or a Bachelor of Business

WHY STUDY BUSINESS ECONOMICS?

Business Economics is essential for understanding our modern world. It drives business and management decision-making and is concerned with the operation of economic systems and the organiations that make up the national and international economy.

Business Economics equips students with the basic knowledge and skills necessary for a successful career as a manager within a business entity or in the public sector or as an economic analyst in the private or public sector. An important objective of a Business Economics major is to demonstrate how practical economic skills can be successfully applied and used in business or government.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

Employment opportunities exist in organisations of all sizes - from small businesses to large-scale corporations. The skills learned are highly portable and can be transferred to a range of job opportunities, both in Australia and overseas. These skills will also help graduates wishing to establish their own business. In addition Business Economists will be well trained for career progression into management and decision-making roles.

COURSE OVERVIEW

In First Year students study two introductory topics: Introductory Microeconomics and Introductory Macroeconomics. First Year Business Economics topics can be combined with many BArts sequences to reinforce and complement the strengths of the two introductory topics.

Students must undertake Managerial Economics in Second Year, plus one of three Business Economics topics, and in Third Year students are required to study the topic Strategic Management, and one additional Third Year topic which can be chosen from up to 12 topics.
