Course overview

This pathway provides you with flexibility, choice and guaranteed entry to the Master of Teaching (Primary R-7).

In the first three years you complete the Bachelor of Art, where you can choose from majors including: Australian Studies,  Creative Writing, Criminology, Drama, English, French, Geography and Environmental Studies, History, Indonesian, International Relations, Italian, Law and Society, Modern Greek, Psychology, Screen and Media, Spanish, Visual Arts, among others. Minors are offered in Mathematics and Sciences.

On completing the Bachelor of Arts program to a required standard, you will be eligible to progress directly to the Master of Teaching (Primary R-7) degree.

The Master of Teaching is a pre-service teaching degree, providing you with the background necessary to apply for registration as primary teachers from Reception to Year 7. Topics covered include education studies, curriculum studies, and professional experience in schools. A languages strand is available to students who wish to teach languages and studied the necessary languages in the Bachelor of Arts degree.

Note: if you start the course mid year, it will take at least 5 and a half years to complete as there is no mid year entry to the Master of Teaching.

Professional recognition/membership

Graduates of the Master of Teaching (Primary R-7) will be able to apply for teacher registration in South Australia and some overseas countries.

Applicants should note there are other criteria determining eligibility for registration by the Teachers Registration Board of South Australia and other registration and regulatory authorities.

Applicants are advised to check registration requirements as they are subject to change.

Graduates looking for employment in other parts of Australia and overseas may be required to meet additional conditions.
