Professional Recognition/Membership:
This double degree provides an academic qualification which will enable graduates to register for teacher registration in South Australia, interstate and some overseas countries. Applicants need to check interstate registration requirements as they may change.

Course overview

The Bachelor of Education (Secondary) / Bachelor of Arts:

  • will prepare you to teach in secondary schools, covering Years 8 to 12
  • provides a rich liberal education for all new teachers, allowing for specialisation in two areas of choice.

As part of this double degree program you will:

  • choose from the following specialisations: Society and the Environment, Information Technology, English, Drama, Health Education, Physical Education, Modern Languages, Junior Science, Senior Science (Biology, and Earth Sciences), Mathematics or Visual Arts
  • complete a major sequence and a minor sequence related to a selected 2 teaching specialisations in Arts from about 40 different options.

A Teaching Practicum program is common to all Education degrees.

Our aim is to educate teachers who appreciate the complex nature of their work and practice in ways that promote a socially just, democratic and ecologically sustainable world.

Education encompasses teaching and learning specific skills, and something less tangible but more profound: the imparting of knowledge, positive judgment and well-developed wisdom.

What can I do with my Bachelor of Education degree?  

Study a language

Flinders also offers all students the opportunity to major in a language in conjunction with any undergraduate course. The Diploma in Language is designed to provide students with competence in a chosen language that adds greater portability to their qualifications. You will complete a total of 1 extra year of study and graduate with both your chosen degree and the Diploma in Language. You can apply for this at time of enrolment.

Languages other than English (LOTE) bonus points

LOTE Bonus Points are available to students who have studied an approved language other than English subject in Year 12. Applicants will receive a maximum of two bonus points for LOTE subjects, regardless of the number of LOTE subjects studied.  For further information refer to Languages other than English (LOTE) bonus points.
