Course overview

The Bachelor of Engineering Science focuses on electronics, computer systems and robotics but also has strong elements of software and biomedical engineering.

It equips graduates with the knowledge to become engineering technologists.

With no formal prerequisities, students performing well in this award are able to transfer to the 4 year Bachelor of Engineering awards.

Why study Engineering Science at Flinders? 

  • This course has significant commonality with the other Bachelor of Engineering awards. Consequently, students who are performing well and wish to transfer to another Bachelor of Engineering award can do so with minimal loss of time.

  • We have an international reputation for our teaching, student support programs/services and research. We are committed to assisting students to succeed in their studies and move into their chosen career. Flinders graduates have a higher full time employment rate than the South Australian average. (Graduate Careers Australia Graduate Destinations Data 2006).

  • In a recent survey, 90% of those asked described our graduates as good to excellent. Rated particularly highly was the way our students think and how quickly they contribute to an organisation. In any year around one-third of our students undertake work experience or practicum placements as part of their study program. Students find this direct industry experience invaluable. Employers understand the benefits and appreciate the involvement.

Professional recognition

This is a new course. It is expected that it will meet the requirements for accreditation by Engineers Australia at the Technical level.

What can I do with my Bachelor of Engineering Science degree?

Study a language

Flinders also offers all students the opportunity to major in a language in conjunction with any undergraduate course. The Diploma in Language is designed to provide students with competence in a chosen language that adds greater portability to their qualifications. You will complete a total of one extra year of study and graduate with both your chosen degree and the Diploma in Language. You can apply for this at time of enrolment.

Prerequisites: None. Knowledge of either SACE Stage 2 (Year 12) Mathematical Studies or Mathematical Methods is assumed. Knowledge of SACE (Year 12) Physics is assumed.

You can qualify for undergraduate courses through:
  • year 12 qualifications
  • mature age entry (STAT)
