The course has been developed with reference to the competency standards and requirements for optometry as published by the Optometry Board of Australia and the Optometry Council of Australia and New Zealand. This program is accredited with conditions by the Optometry Council of Australia and New Zealand and satisfies the academic requirements for registration as an optometrist with the Optometry Board of Australia.

In addition to successful completion of this Optometry Board of Australia approved course, the student is required to provide evidence to the Optometry Board of Australia to be eligible for registration as an optometrist.

This includes:

  • evidence that applicants are a fit and proper person
  • evidence that applicants are medically fit to practice
  • all applicants demonstrating English language proficiency eg for students that meet the Optometry Board of Australia definition of an International Student, they will be required to provided evidence of meeting the Optometry Board of Australia English Language Proficiency requirements at the time of application for registration (IELTS academic level 7 or equivalent).
  • all applicants undergoing a Criminal History Check, specific factors are considered to determine whether the criminal history of health practitioners is relevant to the practice of their profession.

These policies may be subject to change during the period of a student's course and students are required to meet the Optometry Board of Australia requirements in place at the time of application for registration or enrolment.
