Course overview

The Bachelor of Science (Honours) is a 4 year Honours degree that provides an enhanced program of studies for students of exceptional academic ability.

It is unique in offering students opportunities to extend their study of science and embark upon research from their very 1st year through research training and project work.

There is great flexibility in the program, allowing you to follow your interests without being confined by traditional boundaries.

You can choose to complete either:

  • 2 major sequences
  • 1 major, 1 minor sequence and electives
  • an extended major and electives.

We offer options in the traditional core sciences such as Chemistry, Physics, Biological Sciences and Mathematics, and options as diverse as Bioinformatics and Ocean and Climate Sciences.

In your Honours year you will undertake specialised courses and an individually supervised research project. You will present the results of their research in a thesis and a seminar.

As well as understanding science, you will learn to appreciate its role in society and will develop crucial generic skills in problem solving, communication, teamwork and computing.
