Spanish is offered as part of:
It can be taken alongside any other degree in a separate Diploma of Language .
Spanish is one of the three most widely spoken languages in the world. It originated in Spain and it is now spoken by 400 million people in more than 20 different countries in four continents. Not surprisingly, it is one of the six official languages of the United Nations and is also an important trading language in the Asia Pacific region.
Spanish language is offered at both beginners and advanced levels. It is taught using the communicative approach, which means that students begin speaking Spanish from the first day in class.
Students interact in Spanish with staff and with fellow students in work-group activities. These experiences are complemented through the development of comprehension by independent study of audio materials and on-line resources.
Once students have acquired a basic grounding in the language, the door is open to the exciting world of Spanish and Latin American culture which can be studied either as part of the major or as elective topics.
Students should contact the Study Abroad Officer, International Office at Flinders, in the first instance about exchange programs.
Students also may participate in approved intensive language programs in Spanish-speaking countries to earn full academic credit towards their degree.
Flinders University has exchange agreements with the following universities: Universidad de Belgrano (Argentina), Universidad de Talca (Chile), Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile (Chile), Universidad de Valparaiso (Chile) ,Universidad Autonoma De Baja California (Mexico) and Universidad de Valencia (Spain) which enable students to earn full academic credit toward their degree by spending one or two semesters studying overseas.
To participate in these programs, students must have a working knowledge of Spanish (equivalent to four semesters of Spanish at university level).
