Computers on campus

Computer labs on campus

All students have access to student computers in each of the Libraries. You also have access to the student computer labs located in the Faculty in which you are studying. Printers are available and costs may apply.

The Student Access Guide has details about each of these facilities, and the campus map will help you locate them.

The University also has a wireless network, which students with a laptop computer and a wireless network adaptor can use.

Transferring documents on campus

Flinders does not have a central network system for students to store and access their work from any computer on campus. You will to devise ways to transfer your files as you move on, off and around the campus. Here are some options -

  • Find out if your Faculty-based student computer lab has local systems that will allow you to save your work and get to your files from any of their computers.
  • Email your files to your email account, as email attachments.
  • Use a flash drive (also called a USB drive or memory stick), which is capable of holding much more information than a floppy disc and is more reliable.
  • Use the Library computers with CD-ROM burners and save your work to a CD.

We recommend that you do not use floppy discs.

Wireless access to the network

The University has a wireless network. Details are provided at the Student Access Guide.

To use the wireless network your laptop (or PDA, tablet etc) must be equipped with a wireless network adapter.
