Flinders Student ID and FAN explained

Your Student ID and Flinders Authentication Name (FAN) will give you access to a range of information and activities while you’re at Flinders.

Your Student ID is unique to you. Your Student ID is used to get a Student ID card, borrow library books, submit assignments and more.

Like your Student ID, your FAN is unique to you and can be considered your Flinders username. Your FAN and password give you access to IT services, like email and Flinders WiFi.

Email

All Flinders students receive a free email account. This is the email address the University will use when sending official correspondence to you.

Your Flinders email address is FAN@flinders.edu.au. For example, if your FAN is blog0001 your Flinders email account will be blog0001@flinders.edu.au.

How long will my FAN stay active for?

Your FAN will remain active for the full calendar year in which you are enrolled in one or more topics. If you are eligible to enrol, but do not enrol as a student in the following year your email access will continue to be provided until you are no longer eligible to enrol (usually on first of October of that year). Your FAN will remain active for one calendar year after you graduate. You will receive a notification 14 days prior to your account being deactivated. Extensions to Access: Your access will not normally be extended beyond the set timeframe unless you enrol in another course.

What is the Flinders dashboard (Okta)

The Flinders dashboard (Okta) is your personalised single point of access to a range of services and systems at Flinders. Accessing the systems from your dashboard means you don't have to log in to each system separately, the dashboard will do this for you. You can also add non-university applications (such as Facebook) to your dashboard.

 

 

You can access your Flinders dashboard via okta.flinders.edu.au, via the 'Quick links' on the Flinders website, or by downloading the Okta mobile app to your mobile device.

As soon as you activate your Flinders account, you will have access to a number of applications. You can find out what the different applications and systems are below.

 

Set up your self-service password reset and account recovery

It is important to register your email and phone number once your FAN is activated in case you forget or get locked out of your account in the future.

 

To set up self-service password reset and account recovery:

  1. Go to your Flinders dashboard (Okta). Click on your account name in the upper right corner and click on Settings.
  2. Click on Edit Profile and enter your password to verify.
  3. Go to Personal Information. Click on Edit and enter your personal email address as your secondary email.
  4. Go to Forgot Password Text Message. Click on Add Phone Number. Select Country and enter your Phone number.

 

WIFI

The eduroam wireless network is an international roaming service for secure wireless connectivity, which has been developed for the research and education community.

eduroam is the preferred wireless network for all Flinders University Staff and Students.

By using eduroam, you are not only able to connect wirelessly at all Flinders University campuses, but also at participating education institutions and medical facilities by using your University supplied login credentials.

 

Technology requirements

As part of your studies, you will need a computer and a reliable internet connection. Topics may include audio and video content as part of the course materials. You may also be required to submit videos for assessment and participate in online activities. It is your responsibility to ensure you meet the requirements for each topic, including appropriate internet access and data allowance.

The following requirements are applicable to access Flinders Learning Online (FLO), Flinders online learning platform. Some topics may use specific software and have other technology requirements. Please check your individual topic information and the Statement of Assessment Method (SAM) for specific topic related IT requirements.
