On 26 September 2011, the student email system will upgrade to the Microsoft live@edu  service.

When the email system is upgraded:

  • Your email will automatically be upgraded to live@edu
  • Your mail folders and attachments will be the same in Live@edu as previously
  • Any contacts you have set up will still be there
  • If you have set up your email to forward to another address, this will still happen.

Your email address will not change. However the new service will allow you to set up a preferred name alias which will will be added to your sent from... name.  You  may notice your senders address appears in the long form FAN@uni.flinders.edu.au in some situations but your primary email address is FAN@flinders.edu.au.

You will still log in from iFlinders or from the Flinders email login page. A link in iFlinders will take you directly to the new email pages.

A pilot group of students is trialling the new system to identify and clear up any teething problems. Since many Australian Universities are using Live@edu (UniSA since December 2010, for example), we do not anticipate significant issues.

On the evening of Monday September 26, your email will be upgraded and from then on you will use the Live@edu email system. Email will be unavailable overnight while the changeover takes place.

Once you have a live@edu account, Microsoft also provides Microsoft Live services, including Skydrive and Office web applications. Currently these services are provided to students free of charge, but there are no guarantees of their availability in future releases. Your use of these services is up to you. They are not supported by Flinders University, but you may find them useful.

The Student email project is managed by the University's Information Services Division, in liaison with representatives from Faculties and student administration departments. Students are represented on the committee by the President of the Student Council. You can contact the project team by email to studentemail@flinders.edu.au.
