Health service

The Health Service is a fully equipped and accredited Medical Centre and is open from 8.45 to 5.pm Monday to Friday. It is available to all Flinders University students and staff and consultations are strictly confidential.

The general-practice Health Service is staffed by male and female medical practitioners. It provides emergency and routine medical care, as well as other services such as:

  • first aid
  • health screens (pap smears, skin checks, cholesterol, STDs etc)
  • staff medicals
  • minor surgery
  • health education
  • vaccinations (both for health care work and travel)
  • referrals.

The doctors are familiar with the university’s policies and procedures and can support applications for extensions for assignments and supplementary examinations.

All consultations are confidential and services are bulk-billed. You need to bring your Medicare Card (Australian students) or OSHC Worldcare Card/Medibank Private Card (international students). International students with a different private health insurer may need to pay up-front and have the money reimbursed by the insurance company.

Seeing a doctor

To see a doctor you will need to make an appointment.

Call 8201 2118 or drop in and speak to the reception staff. The service is open 8.45am - 5pm, Monday-Friday, including during vacations but is closed over the Christmas and New Year period in accordance with university policy.

Massage

A massage therapist is available by appointment in the Health Service.

 Physiotherapy

Appointments with a physiotherapist are available at the Flinders University Sports and Fitness Centre. Student discounts are available. To make an appointment, call 8201 2842.

After-hours home visit

If you require a home visit by a doctor, you can arrange this by calling GP Solutions on 8130 3324. These visits will incur extra cost and will need to be paid at the time of consultation. Please ask for the cost when booking the home visit.
