Services to students 

Studying well at Flinders is a balance of enjoying what you are doing in all aspects of your life; be it socialising with friends and family, spending time on campus, getting involved in university activities, looking after yourself, maybe working, and of course studying towards a university qualification and wearing that quirky square hat at graduation!

Starting university is a big step and Flinders has an office specifically designed to assist with your transition to university. If you have any questions and don’t know who to ask, where to start, or are struggling with your studies or transitioning to university, contact us at the:

From ‘Where can I find room…’ to ‘I’m feeling overwhelmed and am struggling to make friends and keep up with work’, we have assisted students from many different year levels and backgrounds with a range of issues.

Confidential services to students include:

• Transition to university and orientation information and support for students, Schools, parents, partners and friends.
• Related to the above, face to face, email, and telephone information, support and assistance.
• A referral service within Flinders University (even if you are unsure of who to contact).

We also have the Get Connected and Orientation websites full of lots of hints, tips and links, so make sure you check them out.

Services to staff

Our goal is to support students in their transition to university, and enhance their experience whilst studying at Flinders.

The Transition to University Office works collaboratively with staff and students across the university and with high schools, parents, and partners. Amongst other initiatives the Transition Office coordinates the Flinders university-wide Start Smart Orientation and Tour Guide Program, Degree Transfer Information Days, and is involved in various mentoring programs, Open Days and other initiatives.

We have co-worked with and have assisted academic and general staff with:

• information on transition related issues, student retention, and the first year experience
• transition and orientation related support and referrals
• developing, coordinating and implementing transition and orientation sessions and activities; including campus tours
• brochures and manuals
• providing transition to university related information sessions to students
• developing, coordinating and implementing peer mentoring programs
• facilitating student focus groups
• recruiting students for initiatives.
