Undergraduate students
Undergraduate students are strongly encouraged to attend the academic orientation program, EXCELerate, which is run over 4 days each year - usually in the week prior to commencement of semester.
This program has two streams, one for students in the Arts, Humanities and the Social Sciences and the other for students in the Sciences and Health Sciences. Students are welcome to attend any session in either stream.

International students
International students sponsored by AusAID can attend a comprehensive Introductory Academic Program (IAP), which runs during January/February and again in June/July.
International students should also regularly look at the SLC workshops webpage for updates on programs covering study and English language skills.
Commencing students
Commencing students can access an online program called Preparing to Study which has three components: What to expect at University; Time management; and Essay writing.
This program uses an online system called FLO (Flinders Learning Online). As a new user all students will first have to register in order to access the program. To do so, follow the prompts on the Preparing to study homepage.
Once registered as a FLO user, students can also access the online learning materials from the Student Learning Center site. The university offers a range of transition activities through its Start Smart program and through the Get Connected site.
Postgraduate students
Postgraduate students can access a specialized program for all research postgraduate students called the Research Higher Degree Professional Development Program.
Information about this program is sent to all students enrolled in research postgraduate studies at Flinders. The program provides a comprehensive range of lectures, workshops and seminars related to research training and development.
The program consists of four broad streams:

- Computer applications
- Research skills
- Professional management skills
